Parish Support Organizations Adopt-A-Student - Contact: Amy Tan 713-988-9771 A fund set up to provide assistance to Parishioners of our church who are experiencing financial difficulties and need help with tuition costs at our parish school. This program depends solely on contributions from Parishioners or friends of the school for its funding. Baby Sitting - Contact: 713-667-9111 voicemail 702 Babysitting for special events is available with fee and required 48-hour advance reservation.  Always call in cancellations. Blessed Mother Guild - Meets 3rd Wednesday of the month. The main focus is the sewing of layettes. These are donated to the San Jose Clinic to be distributed to clients who are in need of items for their new babies. Blood Drive - Contact:  Margaret Welch St Vincent started blood drives as a convenient way for parishioners to donate blood to the community. There are 5 blood drives per year. Catholic Daughters - Give parties to St. Dominics Home & Veterans Hospital; help support Basilian Mission, Convent House, Casa de Esperanza Guatemalan Mission, Magnificat House, Morality of Media, Richmond State School, Water for Life, Well Springs & Seafarers Christmas Boxes Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) - Contact: Cathy Goolsby - cgoolsby@svdp-edu.org Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) The mission of Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) is to serve the poor, hungry, homebound, disabled and otherwise needy while respecting their religious, ethnic or cultural differences. CCSC is a non-profit coalition of 36 churches in southwest Houston. The programs of CCSC include: Emergency Services, Job Net, Back to School & Jingle Bell Express to name a few. Knights of Columbus Council #10390 - Married in the Catholic Church (MICC) - Contact: Maria Gibbs mgibbs@svdp-edu.org Helps prepare engaged couples for the sacrament of marriage Newcomers - Welcomes new parishioners Nurse Ministry - Contact: Sr Virginia, 713-663-3546 Nurse parishioners volunteer to use their skills and knowledge to help other parishioners with health or medical needs. The ministry has included: blood pressure screenings, presentations by medical professionals of various health topics, and manage the first-aid booth during the annual Parish bazaar. Nursery - Contact: Joyce Evans jevans@svdp-edu.org Provides babysitting at the 9 and 11 a.m. masses for children under 2 years; free childcare Our Lady of Fatima Rosary Guild - Our Lady of Fatima Rosary Guild promotes devotion to our Blessed Mother by making and distributing rosaries. Our members make rosaries which we provide to schools, missions, hospitals, and other individuals or groups who request them. Our members are encouraged to pray for other Guild members as well as those who receive the beads. In turn, we are blessed by the appreciation and prayers of the recipients. Our rosaries have been used in our Parish and neighborhood and far beyond, to places throughout the world. We believe the rosary is a powerful way to deepen our faith, convert our hearts, and strengthen our will to follow Christ. By joining in prayer with His Blessed Mother, we hope that we, and those with whom we share these prayers, will know His love and be in union with Him. We have no meetings, the supplies are provided without cost, and we can pickup and deliver to our members homes, if needed. We invite you to join our group. Our Lady, Queen of Angels Workshop - The craft workshop works under the patronage of the Blessed Mother and meets every Thursday. Anyone interested in doing needle work or crafts is welcome Our main fundraiser is our Christmas Mini Bazaar in November each year. We also make baby puffed quilts which are sold all the time. I also make prayer quilts (time permitting) which are distributed in the nursing homes. These are made from materials given to us. Parish Library - Contact: Sr Virginia O'Donnell vodonnell@svdp-edu.org "Adult men and women book-lovers maintain and staff the Parish Library/Media Center. The Library serves adults, teenagers and children registered in the parish. The parish library has a good selection of Catholic books, video tapes and audio tapes. Library is open on Sunday after Mass and during the weekdays. Volunteers manage check-ins and check-outs, classify and choose subjects for all new items, enter all new items in the computer and make labels, cards, etc., write "thank you" letters and make donor slips to place in items donated, check and prepare items for shelving, filing, prepare entries for the Memorial Book. The number of people using the library each day varies. From April, 2004 until March, 2005, 944 items were checked out - a very good number for a small library." Respect Life/Project Gabriel - The active arm of St Vincent's pro-life committee was established in late 1992. Our mission is to give any maternal assistance plus counseling references to help any pregnant mother in crisis and save her baby. We collect baby clothes and equipment (mainly from our Annual Baby Shower), purchase of diapers, crib mattresses, etc, plus giving transportation and financial aid in emergencies. Society of St. Vincent de Paul - Contact: 713-664-5350 An international Catholic organization established in 1833 of lay persons who seek to help those who are suffering. Venetians seek through prayer, meditation of the scriptures, the teachings of the church, through their daily lives to bear witness to the love of Christ. Sponsor Couples - Contact: Maria Gibbs mgibbs@svdp-edu.org We pair engaged couples with married couples to complete a marriage prep program; they meet 4 to 5 times working with the "For Better For Ever" workbook. St Catherine of Siena Guild - St Catherine of Siena Guild (formerly, St Gerard Guild) After twenty years as women friends supporting each other spiritually and socially, St. Gerard's Guild has become St. Catherine of Siena Guild. We hope to grow spiritually by seeking out Catholic community spiritual resources in the Houston area. We invite the parish and all interested persons to join us. St. Catherine's continues to support the Senior Appreciation Luncheon and other works of hospitality, as well as Guadalupe House and Project Gabriel. Like St. Catherine, we will respond to God's love by loving our neighbor. St Mary Guild - Meets on the second Tuesday of the month at a member's home. Each month a member or a guest presents a program that encourages spiritual growth. St. Anne's Society - The St. Anne's Society is a group of women and mothers who share and participate in a vision of spiritual growth, service and social activities within our parish open to mothers of all ages. The SAS welcomes women who strive to nourish themselves and their children and families to a closer, more intimate relationship with God. We pray the rosary on First Saturdays at the church at 9 a.m. We visit the sick and homebound and bring the Blessed Lady statue to them. Vocations Committee - Contact: Larry Massey 713-802-2470 The St Vincent de Paul committee for Vocations is dedicated to raising awareness of God's call in life, particularly in discernment for any form of religious life. Goals: To raise interest in St Vincent de Paul Parish toward fostering vocations. To provide materials useful for discernment, including people to contact. To provide prayer and other support to those in discernment. Worship Related Organizations Altar Servers - Boys and girls assist the priests at weekend and weekday Masses. This is a wonderful way to learn about the Catholic Church and enhance their faith. Altar Society - The Altar Society takes care of anything used to conduct the Liturgy. Linens, Vestments, Albs, Candles. One crew changes the Vigil candles daily. The linens are particularly important because each Mass needs fresh linens to keep the purification of the Chalice. They also help with the Flowers at times and also plan the Christmas decorations. Each group works out its own work schedule. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion - Eucharistic Ministers Extraordinary Ministers assist the priests and deacons in distributing Holy Communion as needed for Masses on weekdays and/or weekends. Some Extraordinary Ministers take Communion to homebound parishioners. Minimum requirements for becoming an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist are that you be a Catholic in good standing and a registered parishioner of St. Vincent de Paul parish. Training is required following which Extraordinary Ministers are commissioned by the Bishop.
